That's a large part of what's missing from our political journalism. Yes, some policies will cause dirtier air and cause fewer people to have health insurance. It isn't
polite to point that out. Too often it's the aesthetics of policies that are discussed, how people might feel about them in some abstract sense. Some policies will cause people to die. Like, you know, stupid wars.
