HOPEWELL BOROUGH, N.J., July 11 (AP) — The newest councilman in Hopewell Borough revealed this week that he was a member of a national white supremacist group but said he was not a racist.
The councilman, Marc Moran, said he joined the National Alliance, a group that promotes segregationist living and Aryan values, a year ago because he agreed with its views on illegal immigration and civil liberties. His affiliation with the National Alliance was first reported on Thursday by the Hopewell Valley News.
He has written several essays on the Internet denouncing cultural diversity, mixed-race couples, homosexuals, Jews and feminists. On its Web site, the National Alliance states, "We must have white schools, white residential neighborhoods and recreation areas, white workplaces, white farms and countryside."
