Lexington Herald-Leader, July 4, 2004:
It has come to the editor's attention that the Herald-Leader neglected to cover the civil rights movement. We regret the omission.
It's a stunning story about the paper's relegation of the movement (even local events/incidents) to the back pages, and it leads me to wonder what will be written about the Iraq war, or the same-sex marriage movement, in 40 years. Will newspaper editors/CEOs be apologzing in the same way then, and isn't the point of such apologies to prevent this kind of oversight from ever happening again?
