Awhile back I was listening to a discussion on NPR about the cozyness between the press and the political class in Washington. I forget who the guests on the show were, but I was struck by the assertion by one of them that some of this cozyness was normal because journalists go into the business because they're all policy junkies, and that they really care about that stuff.
I can't speak to what's inside their little heads, but to me it seems that journalists often go out of their way to write about things as if policy doesn't matter, as if there's little impact on the lives of actual people.
And, yes, policy matters.
