The key to capitalizing on the public's discontent with Republicans is to make sure people know you're a Democrat and that the other guy (or gal) is a Republican. I fear this concept goes against the instincts which exist deep in the Washington DNA.
People know Republican politicians are usually assholes, they just need to be reminded of that fact now and again.
