I briefly visited Atlantic City recently ($8 SUPERTRAIN trip on NJT), and I was struck by what a failure it is. It could be quite a nice tourist town, but instead suffers from the casino problem in that all the casinos are designed to trap people within. Individually it's probably a smart business decision, but collectively it fails the town. It's really kinda weird that "old people playing slot machines" was the
vision for years. Really could be a nice place.
