All the reports of the complete traffic clusterfuck that is center city Philadelphia serve to remind us that dense population and employment centers are only possible if a significant portion of the population does not travel to those centers in a car. Not everyone wants to live/work in such a place, and that's great, but such places for too long have also had car-centric policies which have worked against their viability and livability.
