One thing I hope no one mistakenly interprets (on these subjects people seem to misunderstand a lot) from what I write is that not having a car is some sort of grand
liberal lifestyle statement. I don't have a car because having a car costs quite a bit of money and I don't need one. When I had one once upon a time I used it maybe twice per month and it wasn't worth the expense. The fact that I don't need one is a consequence of both circumstances (the metro area I live, that I work at home, the location of spouse's job, existence of decent car sharing program) and choices (live in the urban hellhole). I like living this way and glad I can. Your mileage may vary.
