A point John's been hitting on is that certain Very Serious People think it's very shrill and impolite to point out that government
policies have consequences. One thing which confuses me is the number of political junkies who seem to care deeply about policy in some abstract sense, but who are unconcerned with and oblivious to the actual consequences of those policies. Well, except maybe the consequences of the top marginal tax rate on their tax bills.
