One positive thing about our corrupt system is how perpetually almost passing horrible legislation to benefit a particular industry is likely more lucrative for members of Congress than actually passing that legislation. Certain things, like the inevitable perpetual copyright extensions, will get passed because there are deadlines, but there's a chance that laws like SOPA might not get passed due to, not in spite of, greed and corruption.
