The financial incentives are all messed up in the housing/mortgage markets these days, but it shouldn't have
taken so long for financial institutions to realize that it would often be better to leave people in their homes than to kick them out. Abandoned homes can deteriorate really fast. They wanted to punish the moochers and parasites who forced them to lend them money.
