This isn't
surprising to me. LA's a weird place in that (much of) it is actually a very dense urban area, but yet at the same time the scale isn't quite right for it to be pedestrian friendly. Basically, places are walkable but just not quite places where you'd want to walk. It's a big place and I'm painting with a broad brush here, but the point is that car-centric LA actually has the potential to be one of the best pedestrian/transit cities in the country.
