I don't really know anything about how/how much public money was used for the
Nationals stadium, and am not defending it on those grounds, but in terms of building an urban ballpark for the purpose of actually benefiting the surrounding neighborhood, they did a pretty good job. The big reason: not much parking, and certainly not surrounding the thing with acres of surface lots.
