Since I think I didn't make myself
clear in this post, I wasn't saying that everyone without a significant other was lonely, or had no friends, or had a miserable life, or anything of the sort. I just meant that most people without a significant other could easily be portrayed as being a loner, that their lives would fit the "model" of the loner, even if they have a nontrivial social life. My point was about perception and portrayal, not the reality of lives.
