A bunch of people wrote in to
respond to this post, basically saying that in the pre-9/11 era there were airport shuttles that you could show up 10 minutes before flight time and board. I remember that to some degree, and many years later it's absolutely bizarre that Big Air hasn't managed to make the airport experience more pleasant. I guess Big Security has more power.
