Convincing people to give you lots of money is certainly a skill worth having. But I think increasingly we're seeing that it's the one trick the modern conservative moment has. It makes sense, really, as a big chunk of politics is about fundraising and the people who raise the money are quite well rewarded, both financially and with status. They have no interest in governing, so the GOP/conservative rulers are just the people most adept at getting people to throw money at them, and they aren't good at anything else.
