I think even among anti-austerity folks there's a general belief that, well, austerity sucks in the short run but over the longer run things will eventually just fix themselves because capitalism. With Europe actively trying to destroy several economies I don't know
how that's possible.

And Italy isn't nearly the worst case in Europe.
