I'm actually somewhat less on board with the "no immigration reform dooms Republicans"
idea than some, but I guess the bigger issue is that there isn't an heir apparent at the moment. I don't think McCain or Mittens were inevitable nominees, but there were reasons to see them as the likely nominees. I actually have no idea who will win the pennant in 2016. The "obvious" (if not inevitable) person doesn't exist, which is weird for Republicans. If that person existed he might be able to do what Boehner can't and get his people in line.
