I don't
think this op-ed makes the case very well, but even with my now very degraded math skills I get that there are some very pretty things in Big Math. I'm not one who thinks that everyone needs to get a STEM degree, though I do lean a bit towards the idea that some things, like math, are perhaps a bit harder to teach in self-study.
