This is probably just going to be a string of random thoughts, but I do wonder what celebrity DC journalists (of the David Gregory/Mike Allen kind) really think their jobs are. From the outside they look like the PR team for... but that's the question, for who, exactly? It's too simple to say they're the PR team for "the government" or "the White House" or "Republicans." But they are seemingly the PR team for the permanent DC power class. But who, exactly, are they?
