I'm not denying that there are religious people, but the intersection of politics and religion in the US has long been more tribal. I have no interest in playing the one true Christian game - if people say they're Christian, then they're Christian - but conservative political Christianity has always been about
punching hippies. Some of them are devout by any reasonable measure, and some of them have never cracked open a bible, but it really doesn't matter.
