The "safety" obsession with self-driving cars is dumb because programming them not to hit things is the easiest thing in the world. Whatever their other failures I can imagine them never actually being responsible for an accident in a technical/legal sense. But they will still likely be the cause of
accidents in a broader sense. They won't run into things, but they will cause chaos around them. Also, they're never going to work in the ways people promise.
