A depressing thing is realizing how much of what goes on in politics is about the careers of people and their networks. Obviously someone on a campaign payroll is working for a campaign. That's fine. People need jobs. But there's the broader candidate orbit, including media figures (not just people working for the media, but the kinds of people who contribute or write opinion pieces).
It's a team sport.
