Reporters mostly aren't as dumb as they pretend to be (some columnists are). When they pivot to
"border crisis" they know precisely what they are doing, they know precisely why they shouldn't be doing it, and when they refuse to acknowledge criticisms it's because they have contempt for the people who pay for their product (either through subscriptions or having their eyeballs sold to advertisers).
