The problem for years was that much of the Democratic Industrial Complex - including Obummer - really wanted to cut Social Security. I never understood why they thought "we need to cut your benefits otherwise they will" was a convincing argument! Nor was "if we cut your benefits then they won't try to cut them more!" Being the
"party that won't do that" is key easy Dem branding that they were wishy-washy about for decades
