I'm certainly not going to argue against the idea that sexism can and does play a role in everything, but arguing that, basically, since some people, 14 years ago, didn't ask Kennedy to resign, it's unfair to ask Feinstein to resign no matter what the consequences, misses the mark a bit especially given what those consequences are.
The character arcs and life stories of our faves are not really the critical things at the moment.
