I've posted this before, but when I was at Irvine, Navarro was in the Business School but he had a "courtesy appointment" in the econ department (they just add it to your title to make you sound grander). For reasons that were never explained to me at the time, people in the econ department couldn't stand him and wanted to (did?) revoke that appointment.
Don't think I ever actually met him, though I did see him around!
